On October 1st my world changed forever. Our daughter Margaret Ann was born at 12:48 that morning. She came 3 weeks early, and I was not completely ready for her to make her debut, but I’m happy to report that although she was tiny, she was perfectly healthy. She weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long. I realize that she wasn’t really all that small, but compared to my son who was 8 pounds and 22 inches when he was born, she seemed so little.
I had a repeat c-section and even though I knew what to expect, it didn’t really make me any less nervous. My saving grace was that, because she didn’t wait until her scheduled delivery date, I didn’t have time to work myself up.
We’ve been home a little more than a month and while I can’t believe she’s almost 6 weeks old now, it seems like she’s been here forever. I’m so grateful that I get to spend every day with her and we get this special time together. Even though she won’t remember this time, I always will. I’m learning so much about her every single day. Maggie is a very good baby, but I’m already noticing that she is not quite as easy going as her brother was as a newborn. She always has this serious look on her face like she is trying to figure things out and she doesn’t seem to be impressed by my silly voices and goofy faces that I make at her all day.
Throughout my pregnancy I wondered how Wesley would do as a big brother. He has been the complete center of our world for almost 5 years and then BAM, a new baby in our house. He has been the sweetest big brother ever. He is so concerned about her and he loves to talk to her and kiss her head a hundred times a day. Seriously, he is the poster child for an older sibling. Granted, she doesn’t get into his stuff yet so we’ll see how things go then.
So now I’m home with my family until January, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I miss my kids at school, and I can’t wait to see them when the New Year starts. I’m betting they are learning and growing so much. I’m excited to see what kind of progress they’ve made and listen to all of their stories when I come back. I wouldn’t trade this time at home for anything though. Wes and Maggie are my greatest joys in life and spending this time with them is something I will always treasure.
