In this fourth installment of the Shrek franchise, Shrek (Mike Myers) finds himself suffering from a mid-life crisis. Being a dad and a husband isn't all it's cracked up to be. What he wouldn't give for just one day of bachelorhood! And that's where Stiltskin (Walt Dohrn) comes in, granting Shrek just that. All Shrek has to do is trade a day from his own life, which sounds simple enough. But with the signing of the contract, Stiltskin cleverly takes away the day Shrek was born, thus wiping out his very existence. Now Shrek would do anything to get his daddy duties back, even if it means sacrificing himself for others.

There is one thing to say about Shrek Forever After -- it's leaps and bounds better than the previous two sequels. Even though the premise isn't all that new (It's a Wonderful Life, anyone?), adults will relate to Shrek's struggle with discontentment and kids will double over laughing like they do with every other Shrek film.

Shrek Forever After contains the same bodily function gags and "almost" profanity as its predecessors, along with the same sort of fantasy action and violence (and veiled sensuality), but the lessons learned about family, contentment, sacrifice, and being thankful for the blessings in your life are well worth a movie ticket.

Parents who've let their kids watch the other Shrek films shouldn't have an issue with this one. Adults will give it a solid 3 stars, kids will go for the 5 star rating, so I've evened it out at a nice 4 stars.

OVERALL
It has the same gags and tricks as its predecessors, but with a bit more heart.
